enternity.gr: The Video Games Museum Becomes an Official Member of EFGAMP
The Video Games Museum in Heraklion is the first Greek museum to officially join EFGAMP (European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects), marking a significant step in recognizing video games as part of cultural heritage and strengthening the museum's mission to preserve and showcase them.

The Video Games Museum in Heraklion, Crete, officially opened its doors to the public on January 1, 2025, embracing the motto: "Preserving the Heritage of Video Games for Future Generations." The museum is dedicated to the cultural and technological evolution of video games, housing an extensive collection of over 300 consoles and thousands of games.
Visitors can enjoy a unique experience through immersive exhibits such as the 1980s living room and the 1990s kid’s bedroom, transporting them through different eras of gaming. Its first temporary exhibition, titled “Choose Your Weapon,” focuses on the history of game controllers, presenting their evolution through iconic designs.
As a non-profit organization, the Video Games Museum aims to educate, inspire, and engage the public — from passionate gamers to those simply curious about the history of games. It is with great joy that the museum announces it is now the first Greek member of EFGAMP (European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects).
“We are excited to welcome the Video Games Museum from Heraklion as our first member from Greece,” stated Andreas Lange, COO of EFGAMP. “This demonstrates that video games are now being recognized as cultural assets throughout Europe. At the same time, we look forward to enriching our perspective with another cultural region and its valuable experiences.”
“During our preparations for the opening, we greatly benefited from the knowledge and experience of many EFGAMP members,” noted Manolis Varouchas, founder of the museum. “For us, it was only natural to join EFGAMP so we can face the challenges of preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage of digital games together.”
